"Weed fought the law and Weed won!"

The federal government was very vexed about a beer from Weed, California.

They got over it.

A Northern California brewer who tangled with federal regulators over the caps on his beer bottles said Tuesday that officials have given him permission to keep the message "Try Legal Weed."

The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau had ordered Vaune Dillmann to stop using the caps, which are a play on the name of the town where he brews his beer -- Weed. The bureau said the message amounts to a reference to illegal drugs.

Dillmann appealed and was preparing for a legal fight when he received a registered letter this week saying he can continue using the bottle caps. He shared a copy of the letter Tuesday with The Associated Press.

On the subject of a volcano recently discovered on the planet Mercury, the New York Times recites the following:

"This is equivalent to a huge hole in the ground extending from the Washington Monument out to well past the Beltway," Dr. Head said. "Imagine lavas coming out of this vent and covering the surrounding suburbs out to about Baltimore and the West Virginia border. The greater Washington, D.C., region would be covered with lavas to depths that would bury the Washington Monument."

From the Monument to the Beltway? From Baltimore to West Virginia?

I'm sorry, but I have absolutely no idea what any of that means. Is this tiny little portion of the east coast supposed to be the center of my universe? Is it the geographical reference point that provides context to everything else in my life? I didn't know.
