Sacramento's Historic City Cemetery

Do you like to visit old cemeteries? Have you seen the one in Sacramento? We've come here twice before, once in 2010 and before that in 2007. Maybe I came another time without blogging about it (but why would I do that?), because I feel like I've seen it more than three times in 7 years. No way to be sure if I didn't blog about it tho'.

Roses ruled the cemetery on this visit. Sacramento has much to offer the rose lover. Visit the grounds around the Capitol. Drop by the UC Davis Arboretum, 25 min west of downtown Sacramento.

The Cemetery has some enormous, fantastic specimens of Fremontodendron californium. It's too late to catch them in their prime in 2013. Go in 49 weeks.

There are other things to see in the native section. The grasses are nice.

I'm a graveyard hound, but, ours are such sterile creatures. Too many rules. Yours is teeming with life; like old London or Paris. I do like a quiet, snow covered cemetery in Winter, though.

Just saw the Patti Smith exhibit at the AGO. She likes graveyards, too. Have you seen these?

What of the veterans' section? Seems rather forlorn and in need of flowers.

Enjoy! Lisa

In the 80s this place was a mess. Trashed, stones overturned. I used to there & rake & pull weeds. Today, It looks SO beautiful! Cared for by adoptees, who plant all those lovely blooms. Now it's a treasure. :)

Every cemetery ought to look like this. Instead, they seem to uniformly adopt wall to wall lawn.
