Mount Davidson

It was hot today. I tried going to Golden Gate Park where temperatures are usually 10 degrees cooler than they are in torrid Bernal Heights, but the Park was so crowded, I just kept driving. I ended up at Mount Davidson, which is San Francisco's point of highest elevation.

The neighborhood is called Miraloma Park. I have some old friends who live here now, but this is another neighborhood that I ordinarily have no reason to visit.

We're going into the woods.

The woods are mostly weeds. Eucalyptus, ivy, blackberry, cotoneaster, Centranthus ruber.

Like this:

Surely this is the place in San Francisco to pick blackberries.

The east side of the hill has been cleared, giving some sun-loving California natives a chance. Mimulus aurantiacus:

In the distance, you can see the cool ocean air moving in through the Golden Gate. Temperatures should be 10 degrees cooler tomorrow.

I've never been to this side of the hill before.

I like to zoom in on the city from up high.

Anyhow this is not the top. The top is over there.

And, believe it or not, this is what's on top of San Francisco's tallest peak. Read about it here and/or here.

I like the second shot of the Spanish style house. The house, the colors and the plant work well together. We have a few in that style in my neighborhood, I like them as well, but they look so out of place here.
