Andrew and Mari's West Seattle Garden

Mari Malcolm

Julie and Arthur took me to visit Andrew and Mari's spectacular home and garden in West Seattle late Saturday afternoon. You may recall our first visit last April. What a difference a little spring and summer can make, huh?

Wow. I love it! Incredible sumptuous foliage! I didn't see bunches of flowers - which is fine! (Really!) I can see a whole new direction to go in my garden...again. Thank you, thank you. Kudos to Mari and Andrew on such an inspiring outdoor home. Hands down - the most gorgeous Hell Strip in the world. And the cat gets a big thumbs up from the dog trainer. Perfect video.

This is a stunning garden. I love it! It was great to see the difference between April and now. You would have thought it took years to develop such a vision. (Perhaps, in your head!) I'm checking out Thomas Hobbs' book right now.

Nice!

I thought the open phone on the bench was a nice touch. Not a modern memento mori, but something similar.

Lucky you to get to see such luscious private gardens.

The video was great & I really loved the vibe of this garden. Here's someone who very carefully composed a work of art with plants!

Hi Chuck b.,
I'm writing a native gardening book for a nonprofit press (UC Press), and I was wondering if you might be willing to share a couple of your photos of native plants, with credit of course. Your photo of Roger's red hanging on in winter is particularly nice.
Thanks,

I really like that bench, or I really like it sitting in that pool of Lysimachia.

Hi, Chuck!

I just ran across this. Very fun to have you come back when things had leafed out! Hard to believe, but it's even fuller now, as much as I try to keep things from strangling each other.

If anyone's on Facebook and wants to see my monthly albums, get in touch. The garden is still such a work in progress, but it makes me so happy when people enjoy it as much as I do.

Hope to see you again, Chuck! (And the sparkling wine was delicious, thanks. :)
