Such a sad day. We use to watch the Golden Girls every week. I will miss her too.

I was sad to hear this news as well. I can't believe it took her so long to be discovered, as talented as she was. Luckily Betty White is in terrific shape so far.

Hi Chuck, that was a great piece, and Betty White was the perfect straight woman to the troupe, in all her shows. She got more good lines on Mary Tyler Moore. Good bye Estelle, thanks for the laughs.

Sail on Sweet Estelle and I am with you about Betty. What a gal.
I just had to let you know that I stumbled upon your blog "whoreticulture" while looking for pix of old SF buidlings.
I want to thank you, first, for all the beautiful pictures of everything and, second, for sharing so many good things. I think I've fallen in love in the best way. Spirit crush!

I think The Golden Girls might be my favorite tv show of all time. I have all the dvds. It was sad to hear about Estelle passing but I was expecting it.

What a shock to hear she had passed away. Wasn't she actually younger than her costars on the show.

Thank goodness Betty White is still going strong!

That was a great clip, Chuck! I think Estelle Getty was just a couple of years older than her "daughter" Bea Arthur, much as Pernell Roberts was barely younger than his "Bonanza" father played by Lorne Greene.

Long before Golden Girls, back when I was a little kid, Betty White was the star of a B/W sitcom with her TV husband Alvin. My sister and I would fall all over in hysterics and then try to recreate scenes from the show for our parents.
