Bloom Day

This month, I took pictures for Bloom Day using the iPhone app Hipstamatic, "that brings back the look, feel, unpredictable beauty, and fun of plastic toy cameras from the past."

You must be sick of these pictures if you still follow me on Twitter. Still, my Hipstamatic infatuation grows. The app adds shadows, flattens color, and disrupts composition in small, seemingly random ways. A completely different mood results. Who can say it's any less accurate. Also note the rounded corners and scrapbook matte background, slightly askew. Too funny!

I labeled all the pictures (I think). If you want the name, just scroll over the picture.

Cobaea scandens Rosa 'Moonlight'

Calycanthus occidentalis Calycanthus occidentalis

Rosa 'Veilchenblau' Rosa 'Honey Bouquet'

Carpinteria californica

Fuchsia 'Miep' Bartlettina sordida

Mimulus aurantiacus Pelargonium

Senecio stellata Anagallis monelli

 Fuchsia boliviana 'Alba', Carpenteria californica

Clematis 'Comptesse de Bouchard' Senecio stellata

For more Bloom Day fun, visit May Dreams Gardens on the 15th of any month.

Lovely pictures. The color is so bright. I sue blogspot too but haven't figured out how to make my blog wider. How did you do it?

Lovely Calycanthus...and the photos--dramatic and beautiful. Glad I stopped by.

I planted a calycanthus hybrid today... 'Hartlage wine'... hope it does as well as yours is obviously doing! Larry

I like the photo treatment, it reminds me of my grandparent's albums.

I just love the 'hover' feature for the plant names... if we're going to have Plant Lust, we should know exactly what we're lusting for, right, Chuck? (Cobaea scandens, natch)

The photos are pretty cool - love that square thing - but what a shock to go look up Hipstomatic 100 and find out that the Past that is being referred to is 1982! Feel like I'm being swiftly moved from the vintage category into antique ;-]

That calycanthus looks like some alien spider. Kinda cool.

OK, I have to admit it, I like your other photos better. Nice spice bush, though...

I'm all for fun experimentation and like the iPhone app picture treatment a lot. Doesn't mean I'll be buying an iPhone.

Tomorrow if I can fit it in I will be back in the Kingdom of Madison digging up some small calycanthus at the retired entomology professor's place.
