The raspberries started some weeks ago. There's like 3-6 at a time, every 3-4 weeks.

The roots I planted in spring are all dormant now (the yellow leaves in one of the leaves pictures), the roots I planted in summer have green leaves and are bearing fruit.

They're the same cultivar and everything.

Weird, huh? That's probably the way of things.

I read raspberries like a long, slow spring (which is why they are at their best in the Willamette Valley--or so I'm told). Well, San Francisco has a slow spring too.

Hi Chuck, did I tell you that I got the cobaea seeds so I could be like you? Purple and white, they are just planted, using the new heat mat! Lettuce, malva and amarath up in two days! I may be in trouble running out of room here so early, HA. And HA to 299 to go. Will you keep a running tally? What is the name of the raspberry? I bought heritage when I got the yellow Anne last year and it turned out to be a blackberry, I pulled them up.

The raspberries are Carolines. Good luck with Cobaea scandens. Those seeds are hard to germinate. Did you knick them first? It will be an annual for you, I think.

Thanks. I just counted that I posted 228 for 2008. I was surprised it was so low, can I make 300, doubt it. They will have to be much shorter and fewer photos, not sure I want to change the format, but could do a short, long...nah. I didn't knick them, but did plant them on their sides in very moist mix. There were four seeds in each pack, too. quite pricey from Thompson and Morgan, but I like their variety of offerings.

Nice photos and happy New Year to you!

I got most of my seeds planted a couple weeks ago, including the ones you sent. Thank you so much!

I'm surprised to see your Ceanothus blooming. I don't expect mine to show blue for at least another month.

Your back 40 is looking fine, Chuck. Your raspberry photo reminded me that I have some in the fridge that I bought last week and forgot about. Uh-oh, they don't look so good. Wish I had yours.

Hi Chuck, I ordered Caroline from Johnny's seeds, it is backordered until March 1, but that is a good time for planting here anyway. Thanks for the tip!

Hi Chuck... Your garden looks great for Jan.! By the way I love lemon trees too. I have 2, a Meyer and I think a Santa Rosa. With the Meyer I get lemons in the winter and the I think Santa Rosa in the summer.

I just remembered the name of my lemon tree...It's a Eureka lemon and a Santa Rosa plum. By the way, what is that beautiful red flower?
