The California Trip, Part Three: Summerland

North of Carpinteria on a suggestion from a reader we stopped in Summerland (Thanks, Terry!), an itty-bitty community just south (east) of Santa Barbara.

It seems like they've just re-landscaped the main drag to make it more visitor friendly. I've seen more Agave attenuata in the last ten hours than I've seen in the rest of my life put together.

There are many excellent garden stores and antique shops here. We will visit them now.

Right next to this place (I didn't catch the name) is where you see how the other half lives [in their gardens].

Check it out.

Yeah, if you want your Moorish tiled fountain alcove, it's here.

Hi Chuck, wasn't that you peeking out with camera in hand? What amazing places to visit. Did you buy anything? Maybe the female warrior with spear in hand? That one caught my eye, but might not blend in with my cottage style garden. Those pots, they looked big enough to crawl inside, did you?

I love those giant clay urns in front of the store! I really must do some outrageous sculpture in my new garden. Pam at Tales from the Laboratory showed a giant green head fountain a few days ago. It was very Easter Island.

California is an amzing place. Thanks for taking us along.

Very cool. If I ever came into big money, I'd love to blow a bunch on stuff like that. And plants, trees, more land to put it all on, a convertible Jag, an indoor pool...
